Keke Palmer is an American actress, singer, and television personality. She’s known for such films as Akeelah and the Bee, and the series Scream Queens. Palmer was born Lauren Keyana Palmer on August 26, 1993, in Harvey, Illinois. Her father, Larry, works for a plastic manufacturing company, and her mother, Sharon, a school teacher. She has an older sister named Loreal.

CAREER
Palmer began her music career singing in her local church. She gained further exposure performing at a tourist destination in Chicago. In 2004 she was cast in ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’ alongside Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer. Palmer and her family then moved to California to seek out career opportunities. She landed small roles in the series Second Time Around, ER, Law & Order, and the television film The Wool Cap.

Palmer was cast as the lead in the 2006 drama film, Akeelah and the Bee. She played the character “Akeelah Anderson”, a young girl pursuing the National Spelling Bee championship. The film also stars Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett. Other film appearances include Madea’s Family Reunion (2006) with Blair Underwood, The Longshots (2008), and Shrink (2009) with Kevin Spacey. Palmer did the voice of “Peaches” in the Ice Age film franchise. She also held prominent roles in the series True Jackson, VP (2008-11), Winx Club (2011-15), and the ongoing series, Scream Queens.

Palmer signed to Atlantic Records in 2005 and her debut studio album, So Uncool, was released in 2007. The album peaked at #86 on the Top R&B chart and featured the lead single “Keep it Movin'”. Palmer followed up with three mixtapes, Awaken (2011), Awaken Reloaded (2011), and Keke Palmer Palmer (2012). She’s also released several music videos and promotional singles over the years.
