Driver walks way after garbage truck rolls over his legs

The driver of a garbage truck walked away after being run over by his truck Tuesday.

At about 9 a.m., a Republic Services garbage truck was turning from Willis Road onto Old Highway 30 when a passenger vehicle, heading north on the highway, struck the front dump bucket of the truck, according to the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision caused the garbage truck driver to fall out of the open door. The truck continued moving and drove over his legs, according to the sheriff’s office.

No one involved in the crash had serious injuries, a deputy noted. The garbage truck driver was up and walking by the time law enforcement responded.

The driver was transported to West Valley Medical Center for evaluation. No additional information on his condition was available Thursday night.

The sheriff’s office did not provide information on whether the driver of the passenger vehicle was cited for his or her role in the collision.

Republic Services issued a statement Thursday on the crash, saying the company is fully cooperating with the sheriff’s office in its investigation.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in the accident in Canyon County earlier this week, especially our driver who is understandably shaken-up,” the company stated.

No further information on the crash investigation was available Thursday.
