How to Complete the Scientific Methods Side Quest in Dead Space Remake
In Scientific Methods, Isaac will follow Nicole's research, hoping to learn more about what happened to her on the Ishimura in Dead Space Remake.
The side quest "Scientific Methods" is the earliest side quest that Isaac can take on in Dead Space Remake. However, it will not be the first one he is able to complete. That said, this side quest will allow Isaac to learn more about Nicole and her own investigation into what has been going on aboard the Ishimura.
The side quests are one of many new additions to the Dead Space Remake. They all give Isaac an extra leg up for finishing the game, but they also flesh out the lore of the original. The extra items and upgrades Isaac can earn through these quests make them worth it, as they will allow Isaac to survive his horrifying journey longer than he would without them.
Following Nicole's Investigation in Dead Space Remake
The Scientific Methods side quest can be activated in Chapter 2 - Intensive Care. While Isaac is on the Medical Deck, he can find Nicole’s Office after clearing out the Main Laboratory. Nicole’s Office is near the stasis refill chamber. Once inside, pick up the audio log, and it will begin the side quest in Dead Space Remake.
After that, Isaac will have to find Nicole’s Secret Office, which is within the Diagnostics Room of the ER. Getting to the ER is part of the main objective, and Isaac will have upgraded his gear in Dead Space Remake to unlock Kinesis by now. Once in Diagnostics, there will be operating tables scattered around, one of which has a stuttering hologram of Nicole. The objective will update to following the hologram. YouTuber Gamestra shows players how to follow Nicole through the wall by using the circuit breaker and Kinesis to get through it. A scene will play out once inside the Deprogramming Suite.
Once on the Engineering Deck in Chapter 3 - Course Correction of Dead Space Remake, activate the side quest to reveal the objective to help lead Isaac to the right room. From the Security Station, follow the quest line to the Calibration Room. Interact with the table. Once this scene has played out, the quest will be put on pause until Chapter 7 - Into the Void.
Once in Chapter 7, having defeated the Leviathan in Dead Space Remake, go to the lowest level of Maintenance. There will be Guardians, but Isaac can use the fuel tanks to make the fight a bit easier. There will be secure storage behind them. Use the circuit breaker once more to open Storage 2. The other doors can be opened as well, but this is the objective.
Listen to both audio files. One has extra lore and one will advance the objective.
The quest will be on pause again until Chapter 10 - End of Days. Once Isaac has made his way to the Crew Deck, find the Guest Consultant’s Suites in the Deluxe Quarters. Isaac will be led there by the main quest, so once he has arrived in the Deluxe Quarters, switch the objective over to the side quest and follow it once more. Of note, the Level 5 RIG schematic in Dead Space Remake is nearby. It will lead Isaac to Dr. Mercer’s quarters.
Turn on the TVs and interact with them to watch a scene. After that, go to the suite’s back room and interact with the console along the wall. Watch the whole recording to finish the quest and get the achievement, “Whole Again.”
Completing this quest will also give Isaac the Force Gun upgrade, “Gravitic Amplifier.” This upgrade causes Gravity Wells to have a larger radius. Scientific Methods then gives players not only a lot of extra lore to fill out the original Dead Space, but also a very valuable upgrade for one of the better weapons in the game. This will allow Isaac to finish Dead Space Remake with a bang.
